A Tree In Pain

A Tree In Pain

Today I saw a tree in pain.  At first I thought her bark had shed and attributed it to the weather and normal cycle of tree life.  Then I stepped in closer and observed several layers of her bark removed.  Ripped out and thrown on the ground beside her.  This eucalyptus tree’s inner light colored trunk was exposed to the air around it.  Someone had interfered with her natural process.

Why would someone destroy the bark of an old tree?  Why not let her shed her bark naturally?  Why a tree which provides a wonderful fragrance, a healing oil, shade when you need it, and the oxygen we breathe?  Why this tree which stands tall in our neighborhood and has watched us grow from baby to adulthood?

I hugged her and let a few of my tear drops fall onto her wounded bark.  Perhaps, my positive empathetic energy would help her healing process just a tiny bit.  Or perhaps, she gave me more energy than I reciprocated, simply by making me feel her aliveness.  Thank you dear eucalyptus tree!
